Massage and ‘Stimulation’ Applications

Overview

With the exception of some medical applications, massaging applications represent the only type of product where the type of vibration is a primary function of the product. Putting it into context, haptic feedback and vibration alerting functions are often secondary to the main function, i.e. the mobile phones ability to connect a phone call is primary, with the vibration alert of the phone call secondary.

For massagers, therefore the vibration performance and variety of vibration functionality are the primary concerns of the product. This increases the pressure on manufacturers to differentiate their product from the competition through high performance vibration motors and motor driver design.

To enable our customers to achieve this, at Precision Microdrives we offer a wide range of vibration motors in different form factors, and publish the results of our thorough testing procedures in our detailed datasheets. Massagers

Massages have long been used to aid muscle recovery in athletes and medical patients, or as a relaxing therapy. Physios and masseuses rub and work the appropriate muscles to stimulate blood flow and relax the tissue. Electric massagers do much the same can improve the process through vibrations.

Typically mechanical massagers use a mixture of geared motor mechanisms with complicated linkages and arrangements. Our ERM vibration motors are a valuabale and cost effective way of enhancing the effects and benefits of these massagers. Vibration motors can also be used as stand-alone massaging aparatus, for example in chairs or particularly matresses.

Adult Toys / Vibrators

A large market which has long used ‘good vibrations’ for stimulation purposes is the adult toy market. We have a lot of experience in designing and helping others to design new adult toys and over the years we have helped bring a wide range of premium designs and products to market.

The adult toy market should be considered as being split into two. A ferocious fight for consumer attention at the cheaper end of the market is fought on price where those who can maximise economies of scale and minimise cost typically prosper.
