We have launched a LRA haptic feedback actuator in the form of a 10mm diameter x 3.4mm tall coin vibrating motor form factor. Linear resonant actuator (LRA) haptic actuators are becoming increasingly used for handheld devices to implement vibration alerting and haptic feedback functions. Because they are effectively brushless they have a longer life than traditional ERM pager motors.
Their design for haptic feedback means that they have a very low haptic lag time (just 5ms) which makes for much crisper haptic effects.
LRA motors are driven differently to regular vibration motors. For a start they take an AC drive signal, rather than the DC signal used for regular ERM vibration motors. The drive signal also needs to oscillate at the resonant frequency of the LRA which is specified on the datasheet; for the C10-100, it is 175 Hz.
We have published an application bulletin entitled ‘How to Drive Linear Resonance Acutators (LRA) Vibrating Motors’ which covers in detail the electrical circuitry required to use LRA motors.
Like all our vibration motors, we offer these motors for sale in 1+ quantities with worldwide shipping via its product catalogue. The C10-100 Linear Resonant Actuator (LRA) product page also contains a downloadable datasheet.
